Better pick a size up

I usually take a 36 x 30 for any jeans and it fits me perfectly with an elastic fit to stretch my legs which makes it comfortable to sprint or walk in general, so I got the same dimensions for this one, it’s a firm fit but it leaves no space to stretch the legs which makes it really uncomfortable. Maybe picking a bigger size would’ve helped.

Levi’s 559 Relaxed Fit Straight Leg, Tumbled Rigid

I purchased one Levi’s 559 Relaxed Fit, Straight Leg, color Tumbled Rigid in September 2020. This post shares some general impressions and observations for the new purchase. By the time I see how well these jeans can hold up to daily wear and use, Levi’s will likely have changed the cut, fabric, and/or place of manufacture for the 559 series, if this model even exists anymore.For context, my experience with other Levis are:- Purchased within the last 3 years but returned for unusable small front pockets and poor overall impression, Levi’s 569, 100% cotton, purchased on Amazon- Purchased within the last 3 years, Premium 514, 99% cotton + 1% elastane, made in China, purchased at a physical non-Outlet Levi’s Store- Purchased within the last 3 years, Levi’s Signature Relaxed Fit, 99% cotton + 1% elastane, made in Bangladesh, purchased at Walmart- Purchased much longer ago, assorted Levi’s, 100% cotton.- I will not reference any jeans from other brands.My 559s from Amazon are 100% cotton, made in Lesotho. Seller is Amazon.com.Fit and finish is generally decent, but my jeans had one spot on the thigh where a thread from the fabric itself has pulled up, a defect in the cloth. There’s no hole from the defect and it is not too visible. Some other loose threads were present and I removed or trimmed those. The shape’s cut seemed good to me; when folded up the seams lined up well and the the shape of the pants are correct. When worn, it is certainly relaxed compared to the 514s and tighter than my loose fit jeans. I can confirm a straight cut leg and the length ended a couple of inches below the ankle. In contrast, the Signature Relaxed Fit that I own has legs that don’t quite line up properly when folded and were shorter than ideal, just reaching the ankle.Denim texture is the classic type where the primary visible texture features only diagonal stripes, opposed to the “newer” style from the 00s where vertical threads are very prominent. The color is pretty much the classic dark indigo but with lighter orange/tan colored threads compared to the traditional darker tan/orange. Compared to the regular jeans from 20+ years ago, the fabric is paper thin but I understand this passes for normal these days. There is a very, very slight give when stretched against the fabric’s diagonals that I consider normal for 100% cotton. In contrast, the 514 and Signature Relaxed Fit jeans with elastane both stretch noticeably such that there’s no mistaking that it is intentional. None of my older jeans have much give when I try to stretch them. The front pockets for the 559 that I received is a decent size, my hands will fit up to my upper wrists. In comparison, my 514 has slightly deeper pockets while the Signature Relaxed Fit is slightly shallower (I had searched through the available pants in the store to select one with usable pockets). All of my older jeans had pockets that are equal or deeper than the pockets of the 559 I got.Fabric feel (while new) is decent and my impression is that I can expect it to get better with time like other cotton jeans that I’ve owned in the past. These are not as soft as my Premium 514s but are far better than the Signature Relaxed Fit which was scratchy and rough from the start despite the elastane and didn’t get better after months of consistent wear.Generally satisfied. The fabric blemish is annoying but I’ve elected to not take a chance on exchanging them and getting one with a worse defect. After being disappointed with Levi’s 569s from Amazon, I expected to receive jeans that I wouldn’t like but decided to give these 559s a try. I am okay with what I received.3 stars for acceptable results and I probably got my money’s worth. Overall quality is noticeably lower than their Premium line but very noticeably better than their Levi’s Signature line. Note this rating is primarily in comparison to what is current on the market.
